Fiscal Year 2016 Invitation for Applications for the Strategic Basic Research Programs (CREST, PRESTO)(Term1)

FY2016 Emergency Response regarding the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake (extension of application deadlines)

We would like to offer our sincere sympathies to those affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred this April.
For the research proposers who have been affected by this disaster, JST has decided to extend the deadlines for the research proposal solicitation periods for both FY2016 CREST and PRESTO (First Term) by two weeks. The extended application deadlines will be as follows:

  • CREST: 12:00 noon (Japan time), Wednesday, June 22
    PRESTO: 12:00 noon (Japan time), Wednesday, June 15

For those who wish to apply for the extended deadlines, they must submit their temporary applications through the “Cross-ministerial R&D Management System (e-Rad: Electronic System for Research and Development)” before the respective designated deadlines (which are 12:00 noon (Japan time), Wednesday, June 8 for CREST and 12:00 noon (Japan time), Wednesday, June 1 for PRESTO).

Notification of document screening results: Middle of July - Early in August
Interview period: Late July - Middle of August
Research begins: After October, 2016
A Briefing Session for JST Strategic Basic Research Programs (CREST, PRESTO) in FY 2016 is scheduled for Japan-based foreign researchers, their support staff, and those interested in the JST programs in general.
